I will explain how the food supplement producers and suppliers promote and present the products and their mechanisms to the public audiences, shops and health professionals and how the shops personnel have acquired a high level of education related to active ingredients, their effect on human health, human physiology and anatomy.

This presentation will cover the regulatory landscape for food supplements in several Central and Eastern European countries, including national approaches to non-harmonised elements such as maximum levels for vitamins and minerals, herbal and other bioactive substances, as well as notification procedures and systems in place.

This presentation explores the challenges faced by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA) in inspecting food supplements, particularly due to the lack of harmonization in EU legislation. It will address the DVFA’s inspection procedures concerning botanicals and chemical compounds to ensure consumer safety. A specific food supplement production process will be examined, highlighting issues where the industry creates new substance complexes that are difficult to classify within the current legal framework.
